"Sun's Getting Real Low… “
Angela J Floratos | OCT 8, 2025
If you live near or above the 37th parallel in the northern hemisphere, this is the time of year when the angle of the sun's rays hitting the earth where you live just aren't direct enough for our bodies to make the vitamin D we need - even on the sunniest day.
In fact, it will be at least another 6 months before those sun ray's can do us any good again!
That's why this is the time of year to start supplementing with vitamin D.
Besides the fact there's just not enough direct sunlight for your body to make its own, it's also pretty hard for most adults to get enough from food or drink that's been fortified with D.
Simple answer: Being low on vitamin D impacts how well your immune system works & makes it easier for you to get sick!
👉 Recent statistics in the US show that at least 40% of Americans are deficient in D, with numbers even higher for specific ethnic groups. And our ability to make & absorb D appears to decrease as we get older... yikes!
If you’d like to get your vitamin D level checked before doing any supplementation, just ask your doctor or health practitioner to order it for you. It’s a simple lab test that requires a blood draw.
If you’re in the US, you can order the labs yourself (yes, really!) online through Ulta Lab Test, a company that has convenient locations throughout the country. Ours is an office hidden in the back of a nearby grocery store. You can even use your FSA/HSA card during checkout with Ulta to pay for it or get reimbursed through your FSA/HSA later.
While D-3 on its own can be helpful, most experts recommend taking it with K-2 to get the most benefit, especially if you have any gut/absorption issues OR are concerned with your bone health.
